Hubbert to Bedford: Kill Quadrennial Reappraisals Or Else!!
May 2nd, 2007 by ALGOP
The Goat Hill Gazette blog hosted by Montgomery television station WSFA does an outstanding job of live blogging important legislative committee hearings and meetings of the House and Senate.
A recent post on a Senate committee vote approving legislation limiting property tax reappraisals to once every four years tells you all you need to know about Montgomery.
The blog post reads:
“Some members who voted to give the bill a favorable report did so knowing the bill would get a lot of debate later on. I overheard Paul Hubbert tell Sen. Bedford that he was going to hold Bedford “responsible” for the bill on the floor.”
In addition to serving as the AEA union boss, Hubbert is vice chairman of the Alabama Democrat Party, the same party that paid for ads saying their legislative candidates supported quadrennial property tax reappraisals. Now that party’s vice chairman wants the bill killed.
It will be interesting to see how Bedford responds to Hubbert’s threat, or what tragedy will befall Ol’ Rog if the bill, by some miracle, becomes law. This should give us a good look at who’s actually running the other party.
